💡 Weekly Thought Exercise: Start Experimenting More
This prompt comes from 4 hours of listening to Tobi Pearce's interviews to figure out the main perspective he applies to life and business.
Have you heard of Tobi Pearce?
He started Sweat alongside his then fiance Kayla Itsines.
They were one of the first movers to use Instagram to market a SaaS product (a fitness app).
It sounds obvious now but it was way less obvious back in 2010.
They bootstrapped the whole thing and sold it for $300 million.
I love his approach to business-building.
He looks at business as a laboratory.
Something that's meant to be hypothesized, tested, and optimized.
Tobi isn't the only entrepreneur to look at business (and life) from the view point of a science experiment.
Jeff Bezos: "Amazon as a "science experiment"" where the culture is about "embracing failure and learning from experiments."
Elon Musk: Describes his companies as "vast science experiments" and SpaceX as a "manufacturing science lab" where they rapidly iterate through trial and error.
Reid Hoffman: Advocates for running "disciplined experiments" in business and a data-driven approach, "measuring the impact of changes, and treating the business as a laboratory for testing hypotheses."
Steve Jobs: While not using the exact phrase, he was known for his experimental and iterative approach, saying, "We're just grasping at straws, trying to find something that works."
Richard Branson: "Every successful business is founded on at least one or two daring leaps of faith and a whole bunch of incremental experiments."
Think like these entrepreneurs by using the same guiding principles that scientists use to build your business.
